NONA SANCTUARY

The Nona Sanctuary: A Vision in Progress

Vitruvius Properties is proud to share the ongoing development of the Nona Sanctuary—a breathtaking residential estate and sanctuary venue created from a deep, intentional vision. Located on a repurposed gold mining claim at 9,500 feet, this project is being built to foster a profound connection to the landscape and the self.

An Organic Evolution (2025–2026)

Construction began in 2025 and continues through a truly organic process into 2026. As a work in progress, the project evolves in harmony with the land, ensuring every phase remains in alignment with the site's unique energy and the owner's guiding principles. The owner remains present and deeply engaged, and working in close collaboration with Vitruvius Properties' design and construction team.

Architecture of Intention

The project transforms the site into a high-design retreat centered on phenomenal connection:

  • Continental Vista: Structures are oriented to capture unparalleled views of the Continental Divide.

  • Refined Spaces: The build includes a complete home remodel and a versatile art studio/annex designed for creative flow and gathering.

VITRUVIUS

Gallery Vitruvius: An Intersection of Antiquity and Autonomy

Gallery Vitruvius serves as the cultural heart of our enterprise—a living laboratory where the "Vitruvian Ideal" is fully realized. More than a showroom, the gallery is a premier showpiece of grid-independent living, offering private tours and technical demonstrations of the sustainable, autonomous technologies that power our remote Colorado outposts. Here, the future of self-sufficient architecture meets the irreplaceable beauty of the past.

A Curated Sanctuary for the Discerning

The Gallery houses a globally sourced inventory, curated for collectors and designers who seek objects with soul, history, and narrative depth:

  • The Kinetic Art Collection: We are specialists in the research, restoration, and brokerage of museum-quality vintage Italian motorcycles from the mid-to-late 1950s. These machines represent the Golden Age of Italian design—sculptural masterpieces that we treat as kinetic art. Whether you are seeking a specific marque or looking to restore a rare example, we provide the technical and historical expertise to integrate these spiritual centerpieces into the modern legacy home.

  • The Manuscript Collection: A significant archive of ancient Sanskrit manuscripts, offering a rare opportunity for the discerning collector to anchor an environment with the foundational wisdom and calligraphic beauty of the East.

  • Global Ceramics: A thoughtful selection of heritage pieces from the Indian subcontinent and South America, chosen for their raw, earthy textures and connection to ancient ritual.

THE

ISABELLE

Historical Pedigree: A Tribute to the Gold Belt The 'Isabelle' is a modern ghost story in the best sense. Its silhouette pays homage to the 19th-century hoist houses and miner shacks that still pepper the Colorado high country. By echoing the steep pitches and utilitarian forms of these historic structures, the 'Isabelle' captures the "beautiful decay" of the Gold Rush era. It is a structure that looks as though it was born from the mountain, evolved over a century, and then precision-refined for the modern era.

Materiality: New Life from the Forest In a nod to the surrounding environment, the 'Isabelle' utilizes tongue-and-groove beetle-kill siding and flooring. This choice transforms a natural local tragedy—the pine beetle epidemic—into a stunning aesthetic feature. The wood’s unique blue-grey staining offers a hauntingly beautiful patina that complements the custom metal finishes, mimicking the oxidized iron and weathered steel of original mining machinery.

Architectural Defiance: The Cantilevers While the materials look back in time, the engineering looks forward. The 'Isabelle' features dramatic front, rear, and roof cantilevers. These overhanging structures do more than create a striking visual profile; they allow the home to "hover" over the rugged terrain, minimizing its footprint and providing sheltered outdoor spaces that protect against the harsh alpine elements.

The Future of Autonomy: Energy Independence Hidden beneath its rustic exterior is a high-tech heart. The 'Isabelle' is designed for total self-reliance, much like the miners who once settled these hills. Equipped with a sophisticated Solar PV array and Lithium-ion battery storage, the home captures the intense high-altitude sun to provide silent, clean, and consistent power. It is a residence that offers the romance of the 19th century with the uncompromising reliability of 21st-century technology.

THE

MOLLIE

NEWCOMB

The 'Mollie Newcomb' is a masterclass in architectural balance, representing a harmonious symmetry of form and function that leaves a lasting impression. Designed to capture the rhythm of the sun, the home features two-story expanses of glass on the south and west elevations. These towering windows act as natural conduits, drenching the open-concept living space in warmth and shifting golden light from dawn until the final moments of a Colorado sunset.

The aesthetic is a thoughtful marriage of the contemporary and the rustic. By pairing sharp, modern lines with organic textures, the 'Mollie Newcomb' doesn't just sit on the land—it melts into its surroundings. This intentional material palette ensures the home feels like a natural extension of the rugged hillside while providing a sophisticated, light-filled sanctuary within.

Inside, the verticality of the two-story windows creates a sense of boundless volume, turning the panoramic mountain views into the home's primary focal point. It is a residence that breathes with the landscape, offering a living experience that is both grand in scale and intimately connected to the forest.

THE

DAY SPRING

The 'Day Spring' is a modern homage to the 19th-century gold mine shaft houses that haunt Colorado’s historic gold belt. Its exterior—wrapped in patinaed, corrugated siding—perfectly mirrors the weathered iron of the mining era, allowing the structure to blend into the mountain’s rugged history.

This rustic, industrial facade serves as a shell for a striking architectural juxtaposition. Inside, the raw exterior gives way to a sanctuary of elegant, gallery-grade finishes and sophisticated design.

Beyond its aesthetics, the Day Spring is a fortress of modern autonomy. It is engineered with state-of-the-art grid-independent technology, featuring high-output solar PV arrays and advanced lithium-ion battery storage. This system provides a seamless, high-performance lifestyle, offering the romance of a historic mining retreat with the silent, uncompromising reliability of 21st-century energy independence.

THE

DELAWARE

The Delaware

Legendary Ground, Modern Autonomy Sitting on the historic Delaware Lode #460—site of the first gold discoveries on Alps Hill—the 'Delaware' is a contemporary luxury cabin for the modern seeker. It trades rustic cliches for elegant finishes and bespoke metalwork. Engineered for total grid independence, this residence offers a rare combination of historical provenance and high-performance, off-grid sovereignty.

THE

BON TON

The Bon Ton: A Sanctuary of Sight and Silence

A mountain temple, a panoramic observation house, and a contemplative retreat—the Bon Ton is unlike anything you have ever experienced. True to the Vitruvius Properties philosophy, the home was not simply placed on the land; it was born from it. The process began by staking a path through the forest, respecting the ancient placement of rock and timber, and studying the light before a single line was drawn.

While the property is a rare south-facing gem, the Bon Ton is designed to embrace the entire horizon. A dramatic cantilevered deck wraps the upper level, offering a 360-degree theater of views: from the shimmering Denver metro 4,000 feet below to the jagged peaks of Mount Blue Sky and the Continental Divide. Below this observation level, an aspen forest laced with wildflowers provides a soft, private counterpoint to the vastness of the peaks.

Features of the Bon Ton:

  • Historical Provenance: Named after the legendary Bon Ton Lode #8056 mining claim, the property sits on unusually flat, usable acreage—a rare find at this elevation that invites endless outdoor imagination.

  • Minimalist Grandeur: The upper level is a vaulted, open-concept space anchored by a "startling" sculptural kitchen island, designed for everything from professional cooking classes to intimate gallery-style hosting.

  • Industrial Elegance: The middle level houses two bedrooms and two baths, characterized by exceptionally high ceilings and exposed structural steel that honors the mountain’s industrial roots.

  • Boundless Utility: The lower level serves as a high-ceilinged flex space, ready to be transformed into a yoga studio, a woodworker’s shop, or a curated gallery for ATVs and mountain gear.

Located at the perfect midpoint between Denver and Summit County, the Bon Ton offers immediate access to the wild. Step out your front door to explore miles of hiking and biking trails, or wander through the historic gold-mining relics of Russell Gulch.

THE

MONTE

CRISTO

The Monte Cristo: An Elevated Arrival

The journey to the Monte Cristo is an experience in itself. The home dazzles upon approach, revealed at the end of a private, gated driveway that winds gently through a shimmering corridor of mature aspens. This curated ascent creates a sense of arrival that is both grand and deeply secluded.

The exterior architecture is a study in sophisticated contrast: sleek, charcoal standing-seam metal provides a modern, industrial edge, beautifully balanced by the organic warmth of natural cedar tongue-and-groove fascia.

Inside, the home utilizes "perceptual architecture" to transcend its footprint. The floorplan flows effortlessly, feeling significantly larger than its dimensions thanks to:

  • Verticality: Dramatic vaulted ceilings that draw the eye upward.

  • Light & Glass: A precision-engineered layout of stacked windows and oversized slider doors.

  • Blurred Boundaries: The design dissolves the barrier between the living space and the rugged alpine landscape, creating a seamless transition from the refined interior to the vast Colorado sky.

THE

MALDAR

The Maldar: A Masterclass in Perspective

The Maldar is a contemporary tour de force, specifically engineered as a viewing platform for the high country. Every line of its smart, expansive floorplan has been drawn to pull the horizon inward, making the mountain peaks the home’s primary décor.

The architecture offers a rare versatility, featuring a lower-level living suite with a private entrance. This autonomous space is ideal for a secluded guest wing, a professional studio, or a high-end rental, providing quiet separation without sacrificing the home’s modern aesthetic.

The true soul of the Maldar, however, is found on the eight-foot cantilevered and covered deck. Suspended high above a dense canopy of aspen forest, this outdoor sanctuary provides a "floating" sensation. To stand here is to become a witness to the landscape rather than a mere observer; it is a startlingly beautiful, unforgettable, and quintessential Colorado experience—where the rustle of the leaves below meets the silent, snow-capped majesty of the peaks above.
